To register (or purchase) a web domains, such as www.example.org, you must use the services of a web domain registrar. There are many domain registrars in Bulgaria, such as DomBG (for .org, .net, .com, etc.), register.bg (for .bg), etc.

To register a domain using DomBG:

 Go to www.dom.bg;

 Click on the „домайни“ menu item located under the DomBG logo at the top of the screen.

 Verify whether the domain is available using the form:

 If the domain is available, you can register it. DomBG will require you to create a user account on their system if you do not already have one, otherwise you can use an existing account. DomBG also offers web hosting and other services, and has omni-present advertising in sections which are meant to be presented as ordinary information. It is not necessary to buy hosting on their server. We recommend to buy only the domain.

How much does a domain cost?

A domain with extention .org, .com, .net etc. could cost between 12 and 15$USD (about 18 BGN) per year. There should not be any additional taxes and fees to it.

A .bg domain costs 60$USD per year (plus a 60$USD for initial registration). Register.bg also has special requirements to the entities who wish to buy a .bg domain name. For more information you can read here.

How can you pay for a domain name?

Bulgarian registrars have the advantage that they accept ePay, local bank transfer or payment by post. They also offer the possibility to send an invoice.

Popular International registrars, such as Gandi or GoDaddy can also be used, but they require international credit cards, such as Visa or MasterCard (and not "electron" or "maestro").

Using NGO-bg hosting

Once the domain is registered, it must be configured so that it points to the NGO-bg server. In other words, you have registered a phone number, but you must point to which house it should ring.

From the DomBG website:

 Point the mouse over the „домайни“ menu item located under the DomBG logo at the top of the screen. It is not necessary to click, a new menu will popup, as shown below:

 Click on the „Управление и подновяване на домейн“ menu item.

 Login using your DomBG user account.

 After the login, there will be a general screen with many options. Scroll down, and click on the link: „Безплатно: DNS сървъри“.

 Fill in the form as shown below. The MX line refers to the e-mail server (Mail-eXchanger). On NGO-BG, this is poshta.ngo-bg.org. The www line refers to the location of the website, as seen from a web browser. On NGO-BG, this is 193.192.49.211.

It may take up to 24 or 48 hours for the configuration to be effective.
